3 Odds, 2 Cars, and a little giveaway

Cheap little lots are fun! This five card bundle arrived the other day. 

You are not going to find these your local Pokémon err.. card show. 

 

1909 Player's Nature Series 50 card set. This is the third of these in my collection. It is a little rough as the number in the top right has worn off. It is #15. 


1936 Churchman's The Story Of Navigation set of 50. Also the third in my collection. 

1937 Churchman's Treasure Trove set of 50. The first of its kind in the binder. 



1931 Abdulla Autobilder Serie II 150 card set and another first card for me. These cards are 1 15/16" x 2 15/16" in size. Good quality stock and a matte finish. A very nice 94 year old card. 




1961 Topps Sports Cars. 2 1/2" x 4 11/16" 66 card set. I will start to keep an eye out for these in VG-ish condition. I'm up to 5 so far. 

They are not crazy expensive if you are ok with lesser condition. Decent copies of singles can be had in the $2-5 range. Watch for cards #32 and 60 as they have the checklist on the back instead of a cartoon. If you come across any unmarked specimens cheap scoop them up as they go for a hefty premium.

A NM set sold a couple of weeks ago for $183 with marked checklists. Another NM set with unmarked checklists sold for $430. 


I do appreciate the artwork on these older non-sport cards, but also the educational information on the backs. It is something we so rarely see anymore.

    Absolutely love the 1961 Topps Sports Cars set. If I came across a complete NM set (w/marked checklists) for $183 at a flea market... I might need to run to an ATM and buy it.

Buying lots on TCDB - Part 1

One of my favorite approaches for growing the card collection is through bulk buys. Not from one of the usual places mind you, but through TCDB. What?!  Occasionally members will take to posting on the forum that for whatever reason they have become motivated sellers. This is good for me as I have an extensive wantlist set up in the system. With a few clicks away we go and I await the lot price.  I reckon that in the past three years I have made over 100 purchases there. From a handful of cards to a 5300 card buy. Sunday chores Chronicled

A quick Sunday post with nothing of real substance because its been a day of house repairs around here -plumbing and caulking.  How do two sinks in different rooms develop issues at the same time? Demons...  My, er, reward was a clearance pack of 2021 Panini Chronicles Football. Timely I reckon for week 18.  The pack wrapper had a huge ugly clearance sticker on it, so no picture.   Here are the base cards, The base cards are quite decent. Nice layout and good card stock. An overdue update

 Spring has finally sprung in our neck of the woods, though there is still snow/ice on the ground deep in the forest. The to-do list around here is endless but rather satisfying. Nothing better than putting winter gear away.  The volatile economy has kept my card purchases on the lean side to be sure and even if I wanted to drop some coin to rip some packs new retail product around here is non-existent. The same tired Hoops and Score football still takes up most of the shelf space.  Nonetheless, a few good things were added to the collection in the last couple of weeks. Knocking out sets on the cheap is still satisfying.  The 1992 Dart FernGully set is complete. Quite a cast of voices in this film.  Info here I needed to add something to the Sportlots order, and the Moreland was the only card I could find.
