Family, dogs, and cards

For the first time in almost three years my mother and brother made the journey to our town. Mind you we have been there to visit. There's no way you don't see your mama for three years.

A weekend of fun last week - beaches, sightseeing, BBQ's, and backyard fun. Four generations just hanging out.

Of course there had to be a card angle in here. My brother brought a four row box of all top-loaded cards that a guy he knows wants to sell. In fact there are 5 such boxes but only one came to town. It was clearly a card dealer's $1-5 table box, from 2022-23. A whole lot of Julio Rodriguez, Juan Soto, Jasson Dominguez and lots of base inserts.

There was maybe 50 or so 50's-60's vintage in there as well. I comped the best of the box and without fail the cards were all sticker priced at double of today's market. I made my offer - a message was sent - and the reply was NO. Oh well, good luck to them.

A fair bit of cool stuff has come in since we were last here, in no particular order,

This set is complete. One of my least favorite Donruss sets, just behind 1992.

A thread on Bluesky discussing this great band inspired me to get this 1973 Dutch Gum card. Could be their RC?!

Same night I picked up this Duran Duran 1985 Fanz sticker from Europe.

The Jays could be a contender this year. This 2023 Bowman's Best beauty is the refractor version which looks great in hand!

What about the dogs?? Well our male Samoyed, the husband of the one in my profile pic, just done got de-sexed this week. Now he's got a lampshade on his head for a few days.

A couple of 1980 Fleer Pac-Man stickers were an order add-on. There are so many variations and issues of these. Good luck to master set builders.

I have decided to make a serious run at the 1977 O-Pee-Chee Charlie's Angels set. This lot of 53 cards will likely take me to over 50%.

And to close, I saw her in the In Memoriam section on TCDB. I had never heard the name, Topsy Küppers before so I was intrigued. If you are interested here you go.

I know next to nothing about the card pictured. It's 3 1/2" x 5 3/8" and appears to be from a set going by the number 274 on the back. Got it from a seller in Hungary for a couple of bucks.
Feel free to add a comment if you know anything about these.

I may have a post in the next day or so if the big-box has anything tomorrow worth ripping. Otherwise I'll be back here in two weeks. We are off to an out-of-town wedding and then a week of vacation. Never know what one may find along the way.

Thanks for reading and keep collecting.

  1. Nice on the OPC Charlie's Angels. I got a few of those a little while ago but haven't done much to add others. ... I didn't know there was a Roxy Music card, might have to do something about that, too.
