Expo, flags, and a Stormy

Today we have a real mixed bag of some new acquisitions from the past couple of weeks.

It is fun to find cards that are little known and uncatalogued. It does seem to make the money flow out faster, though none of what you will see was big money, far from it.

I first saw these cards on a local Facebook listing for what seemed to be a decent price. Before I sent message I needed to learn more about these. In that poking around I came upon an eBay listing that was about half the price with shipping included. 

This oddly shaped set of 45 cards was issued by the beer brewing company, Molson, to commemorate pavilions of forty-five countries at the Expo67 World's Fair in Montreal. They came in their own box, shame this one has seen better days. The cards themselves are in great shape. Most have six sharp corners. Huh?...yup.

For whatever reason I seem to be drawn to flag cards. I am chipping away at the 1956 Topps Flags of the World - halfway there. Then there's these small German cards circa 1930's. 


There are 396 cards in this set. I have picked up about 40 or so of these in the last couple of years. Finding a checklist has been unsuccessful - it would be nice to get it listed on TCDB. There are a couple of albums on the market that would solve that, but I am on the fence about spending card money on this. I will keep you posted.

And finally, I was reading about a 2024 Election set by FYRE, 4 More in 24. It seems they are a subsidiary of Historic Autograph and Card Company. This set has a small print run as the base cards have a notation on the back, 1 of 500 and the parallel numbered out of 125. Interesting enough to warrant getting a type card. I wasn't interested in getting political so here is the card I got,

A quick Sunday post with nothing of real substance because its been a day of house repairs around here -plumbing and caulking.  How do two sinks in different rooms develop issues at the same time? And so it begins...

 It was a weekly routine for my brother, parents, and I to visit my grandparents just about every Saturday evening in the winter months. Watch some Toronto Maple Leafs action and get caught up on life and such.  For some reason (out of the ordinary) on the way home we stopped at a variety store. This was one of the items dad bought, for me. I had never seen this before. Dad knew that as a 7 year old hockey fanatic that I would appreciate this surprise. What he didn't know is what he started. The mail is moving again!

  Well, a few hours ago it officially became winter. YAY.  I am not a cold weather enthusiast in the least.  It's 3F/-16C here and I need to hit some downtown boutique shops for a couple of more gifts for Mrs. TnT.  The mail brought some spring into the house yesterday. What is more spring than Butterflies?  Baseball spring training for most readers. I promise to have some baseball content very soon.  In the meantime, 1938 Gallaher Butterflies and Moths set. These three put me at 9 out of the 48 cards in the set.     This card is from the 1911 Imperial Tobacco Co. of Canada Butterflies and Moths set of 50. I've got a ways to go as this is only my second. Some of these unbranded sets can be very challenging to identify as many are cataloged as "Anonymous". I would love to see an image of the album that is mentioned on the back.
